Heat Treatment For Pallets Northampton & Milton Keynes

heat treatment northampton

Here at Alpha Pallets, we support the latest heat treating standards. We produce heat treated/fumigated pallets which can be spray or stamp marked to the customer request. Timber pallets for the international transportation of goods are required to adhere to rigorous control measures, in a bid to help protect forests across the globe from the spread of pests and disease.

What Is ISPM15 Heat Treatment?

ISPM15 (International Standard for Phytosanitary Measures) is an initiative which deals with the need for a standardised system for treating all solid wood packaging - not just pallets. Heat treatment involves heating the wood to a core temperature of 56 degrees Celsius for 30 minutes, in order to kill any living organisms.

ISPM15 certified pallets bear an accredited mark to show that they are in compliance with the regulations and have been heat-treated in the correct way. Many countries have adopted ISPM15. Non-compliance can result in shipments being rejected and returned, quarantined or possibly even destroyed.

Advantages of Heat Treated Pallets

The main benefit of ISPM15 Heat Treatment is that it eliminates many pests and diseases as well as eliminating the possibility of potentially damaging organisms being transferred across the world. It is an extremely important measure as the effect of diseases or pests outside of their natural habitat could be devastating to the timber industry.

From a business perspective, it also means that shipments can move with ease on their journey as it is an internationally agreed upon and recognised symbol, meaning that fewer checks are needed, resulting in less time and money lost due to delays. This is because the accredited stamp, along with the certificate associated with the treatment, acts as a passport for the timber pallets, preventing a lot of frustration in the process.
